About

This project is widening and reconstructing SR 50 (Cortez Blvd) from east of US 301 to the Sumter County line. The two lane roadway will be widened to a four lane roadway and two bridges will be built over the CSX railroad crossing. A 12-foot-wide shared use path will be built on the south side of the roadway.

Burwell Road will be realigned to a new intersection with SR 50 just to the east of its current location.

Construction is active and is projected to be completed in the spring of 2025.

* Construction cost includes original construction contract amount plus approved contract changes. It does not include inspection oversite.

SR 50 traffic shifted to new alignment

Ridge Manor -- Just before noon on Thursday, November 16, both directions of traffic on SR 50 (Cortez Blvd) were shifted south to new roadway (the future eastbound lanes) from east of Burwell Road (CR 575) and continuing approximately 3.2 miles to the east end of the project. SR 50 is expected to remain in this alignment into spring 2024.

Burwell Road intersection at SR 50 shifted to the east

Ridge Manor -- The intersection of Burwell Road (CR 575) at SR 50 was relocated about one-quarter mile to the east on July 5, 2023. The traffic shift is needed to continue reconstruction and widening of SR 50 in this area. The temporary relocation of the intersection is expected to be in place into early 2024.

Closures
  • SR 50 is CLOSED in eastern Hernando County

Ridge Manor -- As of Saturday morning, July 13, 2024, SR 50 is closed to all traffic at the railroad tracks east of US 301. The closure is needed to erect beams for a SR 50 bridge over the railroad tracks and is expected to be in place around-the-clock for approximately 12 days for bridge construction and CSX railroad signal work. No traffic will be permitted to enter the work zone or cross the tracks during the closure. SR 50 is open to local traffic only from US 301 to west of the railroad tracks. SR 50 is expected to reopen on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

DETOUR: Traffic is being detoured using US 301 and State Road 575 / CR 575 (Burwell Road). This is a lengthy detour; drivers are encouraged to plan extra time into their schedules to travel through the detour or consider alternate routes.  Detour Map
